Fitness & Nutrition Welcome to 2008 (better late than never), as a lot of people start New Year’s resolutions, fire stations all over the country try to come up with ways to create a healthier fire department. Although most firefighters, no matter if their career or paid on call, do not like to be told they have to exercise or eat a certain way, but as times change we also need to change. This is so we can help everyone stay healthy through his or her entire career and enjoy a long retirement. The leading cause of firefighter deaths is heart disease. This is an event we can all train on more than we do now. This is why every month we are going to be looking for a new exercise, nutritional snack, web pages, and facts that will help everyone try something new. If anyone has any ideas please e-mail at ahealthyccfr@yahoo.com Exercise of the month – Try any type of circuit training around your station. Example (Station-2, with an air-pack and bunker gear climb one flight of stairs three times and then at end of the first set complete ten push-ups, sit-ups, or any other type of exercise you will try. Try to complete ten sets within thirty minutes.) Snack of the month – Try eating Orville Redenbacher’s Carmel rice cakes with low fat peanut butter and a little honey on top.
